Nikolaj Ehlers scored a goal and added two assists and was the mainstay of the Winnipeg Jets’ 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday at the Canada Life Centre.
Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor did their part with a goal and an assist each. Gabe Vilardi added a power play goal for the Jets (26-10-1).
Goalie Connor Hellebuyck stopped 33 pucks in front of the Jets net.
Ridley Greig and Tim Stützle, both on the power play, scored the goals for the Senators (18-5-2). Goalkeeper Mads Sogaard made 19 saves.
Ehlers scored at 11:19 of the third period and assisted on Vilardi’s goal, which gave the Jets the lead less than two minutes earlier.
The Senators led 2-0 early in the second period, but the Jets responded with two goals in two minutes and 15 seconds to bring the duel back to square one.
Scheifele set up Connor’s goal at 12:46 and Ehlers made a pass that allowed Scheifele to escape and beat the Senators goaltender with a backhand shot at 15:01.
Connor’s goal extended his point streak to six games.
Greig deflected a Thomas Chabot shot past a flustered Hellebuyck at 4:03 of the second period. Stützle completed a play by Drake Batherson at 10:40 of the first period.
