The regional director of Culture and Francophonie welcomes the initiative
“The book, a literary port at the gates of the universe”, is the theme of the first edition of the San Pedro International Book Festival (Festil-Sp), held from December 20 to 21, 2024, at the Inagohi Modern High School of the city. On the menu were exhibition stands set up by several authors including Couibaly Abou, as well as by publishing houses. These include, among others, Editons Universitaires de Côte d’Ivoire, Classiques Ivoiriens, Sec Média and Editions l’Harmattan.
This festival, which took place in the presence of emissaries from the regional prefecture and the Regional Directorate of National Education and Literacy (Drena), is an initiative of the Ivorian writer-poet Bernard Nécké. The man of letters is the author of a number of renowned works, including La Balafrée.
Pupils and students attended the meeting
In the opinion of Kouamé Kouakou, the regional director of Culture and Francophonie of San Pedro, this platform initiated by Bernard Nécké is an innovation to be supported for the maintenance of sub-regional cultural and literary activity.
“Of all the festivals organized in the region which have a heritage character, this is the first time that we have recorded a festival dedicated to Books. Therefore, I think that a void has been filled. Everything which constitutes a satisfaction for us in view of the difficulties experienced by books and publishing houses in our tropics”, indicated the first head of the cultural administration of the seaside region of the South-West of the Côte d’ Ivory.
