New gesture of friendship and solidarity from Algeria towards neighboring Tunisia. To help it cope with a cold spell, Algeria transported a cargo of gas to the neighboring country.

Tunisia has been experiencing a cold spell for several days. The cold particularly affects the northern and northwest regions. It is once again on Algeria that Tunisia was able to count in the face of this difficult situation.

According to the Tunisian press, a shipment of gas arrived very quickly from Algeria. The cargo of 5,000 tonnes of gas arrived on Wednesday December 25 at the port of Bizerte, aboard an LNG tanker, said the Tunisian Petroleum Distribution Company (AGIL), cited by the media Al Hadath Tunisia. The cargo is intended for household use, it is specified.

In statements taken by the Business News site, Salah Bargaoui, CEO of AGIL indicated that his company mobilized all its logistical and human resources to unload the cargo and transfer the gas into cylinders which will then be transported to the north and the northwest of the country where very low temperatures are recorded.

In recent years, Algeria has repeatedly come to the aid of neighboring Tunisia. In 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic, several trucks of oxygen were transported to Tunisia where hospitals were lacking this vital material.

Algeria has also helped the neighboring country several times to alleviate the shortage of sugar in its stores by regularly sending thousands of tonnes.

Financially, Tunisia, facing an acute crisis, has received several loans from Algeria in recent years, amounting to several hundred million dollars. Algeria is also a major electricity supplier to Tunisia.
