Big blow for the Frenchman. He took off during the second training session in preparation for the descent on the Stelvio. Last year’s winner and Marco Odermatt’s great rival had to be airlifted.

Scary image this Friday in Bormio. Cyprien Sarrazin suffered a very violent fall during the second training session ahead of the downhill race in Lombardy. The 30-year-old Frenchman was well ahead of the competition when he fell after a minute and a half of racing. He was skiing at over 125 km/h. Vincent Kriechmayr, who started just after, was stopped by the organizers. Training was interrupted for around twenty minutes before resuming.

Winner of his first descent on the Stelvio last year and well ahead during the first training session on Thursday, “Cyp” was caught behind on a bump. He was catapulted several meters into the air and bounced violently onto his back after landing on the ice of the Italian track. Shaken in all directions, he lost a ski before finishing his race just behind the safety tarpaulins, which he pierced. His airbag opened.

Quickly on site, emergency services took care of the 2nd in the last Downhill World Cup, double winner in Kitzbühel. The Bormio downhill is scheduled for Saturday at 11:30 a.m., on the track which is to host the men’s events of the 2026 Olympic Games.
