Farès Bahlouli gave a long interview to the French media Sofoot in which he looked back on certain moments of his career and on the contacts he had with the Algerian selection.
Promising during his debut at Olympique Lyonnais, Farès Bahlouli did not have the career he hoped for. In an interview given to Sofoot the player reveals that he had relied heavily on his skills at the start of his career, thus preventing him from progressing: “ When we have talent, we rest a little, we are ahead, and we don’t get into the habit of working more, of preparing for the high level, early on. It was very helpful to me. I had ease with the ball. If I had had fewer qualities, I know that I would have compensated more with more work. Today, when we see those who succeed… Yes, it takes a little quality and talent, but it’s really those who have this hard-working mentality. »
Long awaited in the Algerian selection the player confides having had contact with the coach at the time Christian Gourcuff. He indicates that he was close to a first selection but was stopped by pubalgia: “When I was at Monaco, (Christian) Gourcuff was the coach. He calls me. We’re doing the paperwork. He preselects me. It’s going to happen. But that’s where I have my pubalgia.»
Farès Bahlouli also declares having been close to signing for the Algerian championship in 2022, without naming the club. However, his administrative situation with his former club Dnipro blocks the transaction: “I am close to signing in Algeria. There is also an interesting opportunity in the Gulf. I lose a year and a half. It’s super complicated. You are blocked by the procedures, they do not answer you. They justify this with the war with Russia. There are days when I feel bad. Especially since time is against you. The further I am from the field, the more complicated it will be. Today, this club has sunk, the president is in prison… I have finally been free since the end of July 2024.”
