If Disney found its Christmas series with Skeleton Crewluck of Goonies in the universe of Star Wars with Jude Law in the lead, fans of the saga are impatiently awaiting the return ofAndor in April 2025. And they should not be disappointed given the studio’s excessive financial ambitions to conclude the story of the character played by Diego Luna. According to a report from Forbes, Andor would have cost Disney nearly $645 million in production costs, which makes it quite simply the series Star Wars the most expensive in history.

The American media specifies that season 2 alone cost nearly $290.9 million. This is more money invested than in certain films of the new trilogy including The Force Awakens ($243.8 million) and The Last Jedi ($280.7 million), or even some Marvel blockbusters like the first Avengers ($220 million). A huge budget which is largely explained by the numerous production delays, first during filming (following the actors’ and screenwriters’ strike at the end of 2023), then in post-production, which would have required almost a year of work .

A colossal sum when we know that certain serial spin-offs of the saga Star Wars struggle to convince, or even find, their audience, like the miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi or more recently The Acolytecanceled after a short season. If Andor has an excellent reputation in the community of fans and critics, its darker atmosphere and its more mature issues necessarily make it less accessible than The Mandalorian For example. But hey, we’re not going to complain about a more substantial investment for the second and final season of a truly successful series.
