Epic Games Store: Dark new leak hints at a free AAA game for Christmas with “Very Positive” Steam ratings

The next free game for the Epic Games Store's Holiday Sale giveaway is still buried under the cryptic clue posted by reliable leaker u/MeguminShiro on Reddit. (Source: Epic Games)

A new cryptic leak for the Epic Games Store's December 25th offering referenced a AAA Christmas title with “very positive” reviews on Steam and ties to past free offerings. This will be the first free AAA game to be given away for this year's Holiday Sale giveaway, if the leak is valid.

We have received relatively simple clues for the free games offered in the past as part of the Epic Games Store for holiday sales. From Vampire Survivors on December 19th Dredge on December 24, leaker u/MeguminShiro was pretty specific with his leaks, often providing the community with easy-to-guess clues via emoji. It appears that's not the case this time, as the latest leak regarding the free game for Christmas (December 25) is the most confusing. Take a look below:

As per the hint, it is not clear which genre the game belongs to, nor what the elements of the game are. Unlike previous clues, which included direct references to the game (fishing/boating for Dredge and dice/cards for Astrea: Six Sided Oracles) – this new clue concerns other aspects of the upcoming game. For example, we know that the Christmas freebie will be a AAA title and that it has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam. Furthermore, the game is more than two years old, which excludes all titles launched after that.

The only two emojis present in the leaked word are the “dharma” emoji (a symbol often used in relation to the Indian religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism) and the “Om” emoji (a symbol of unity in Hinduism and other world religions). Clearly, both emojis have religious implications. Finally, the game is expected to be a 'half-repeat', implying that it was part of a collection offered for free on Epic Games in the past. u/MeguminShiro further mentioned that people who love the game will be happy to find out what game it is, but many players will not be happy at all.

Even the colleagues from Should You Play It? they are also in the same boat. Thanks to numerous suggestions from the community, they were able to compile a list that meets most of the above criteria. While some titles on the list seem less likely than others (or not at all, like GTA 6), others seem quite plausible. Even Reddit users, who were quick to point fingers at the previously leaked headlines, were left perplexed. Considering the plethora of comments and theories, along with the clues listed above, it's possible that Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Platinum Edition may it be the great Christmas gift. On the other hand, if the emoji in the clue are present in a completely different context, the game could be Batman: Arkham Knighta part of Gotham Knights Deluxe Edition + Batman Arkham Origins Bundle (come da u/raikoumaster13).

As there is no concrete information at the time of writing, please take all this information with a grain of salt. If more data becomes available before the game's official reveal, we'll be sure to update it.
