Sophie Hediger has died
Snowboarder Sophie Hediger, born in 1998, tragically died on the snow of Arosa while practicing freeriding, her beloved hobby. Suddenly, one avalanche he overwhelmed her without leaving her a chance.
The ski world mourns Sophie, starting from Swiss-Skithe Swiss Federation, which through its CEO declared: “We are shocked and our thoughts are with the family. Sophie's tragic death casts a dark shadow over the Christmas holidays. We are immensely sad, we will remember her fondly.”.
Now, in agreement with the family, no further statements will be released in respect of this tragic moment but also because there are some investigations in progress.
The death of Sophie Hediger: the investigations by the police
The world of skiing is mourning the serious loss of the athlete, who was only 26 years old and trained constantly to reach the the 2025 World Championships. The accident occurred on December 23rd and the police are now investigating the dynamics, in fact an investigation has been opened to determine any responsibilities.
The girl, originally from Zurich, was a great talent and had achieved the first two podiums in World Cup in the 2023/24 season. We also remember the best result achieved, namely second place in St. Moritz last January, during the dress rehearsal for the 2025 World Championships.
