After the success of “Oppenheimer”, Christopher Nolan will direct a new film based on the epic poem composed by Homer around the 8th century BC, the Odyssey, a work that many studied at school. As revealed by Universal Pictures with a post on “X” (formerly Twitter), Nolan's new film will be titled “The Odyssey”.
“It is a mythological action epic filmed around the world using the latest IMAX cinema technology,” explains the production studio. «The film brings the Homer saga to IMAX cinema screens for the first time and will be released in cinemas around the world on July 17, 2026».
The wait is still long, but the curiosity of the general public is already high. “The Odyssey” has all it takes to become a successful film, starting from the use of the IMAX projection system, which uses two digital projectors to make images sharper and brighter, improving the viewing experience of spectators. Christopher Nolan will be directing, a guarantee in the cinematic world, who has created successes such as “Oppenheimer”, “Inception”, “Interstellar” and many other unforgettable films.
In the next film, Nolan will bring to the big screen the story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, told in the ancient Greek poem, a cornerstone of Western literature. As reported by Deadline, the story will retrace some of the iconic episodes narrated by Homer, such as Ulysses' meetings with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, the sorceress Circe and, finally, the reunion with his wife, Penelope. Themes of love and war will be explored, but there will also be moments of heroism, loyalty, cunning and fighting against divine will.
According to what reported by Variety, the cast should include Tom Holland, who in an interview on the podcast “The Dish” said he had accepted Nolan's proposal to take part in a future project: «To be perfectly honest, I don't know really what it's about,” he said. “I'm super excited, but he's been pretty secretive about the project. I met [Nolan] and it was fantastic. I'm sure that when he's ready, he'll announce what it is.”
His words suggest that the project Nolan was talking about is “The Odyssey”, which, in addition to Tom Holland, should see the participation of Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya and Charlize Theron. These are the names of the actors who should give life to the film, which will allow a wide audience to come into contact with one of the greatest epic poems in history.
