Along the way, he faces a series of obstacles and challenges, including opposition from the deities. Among the main characters who populate his adventure are the Cyclops Polyphemus, the seductive mermaids, the sorceress Circe, and his faithful wife Penelope, who patiently awaits him in Ithaca.
