Vicenza, the testimonies about Paola Pettinà: «She insisted that we rely on her partner's funeral agency». The anger of the ex-friend: “She scammed me”
“There was apparently something wrong with Paola, I should have listened to my instincts.” Stefania Miglioranza thinks with the benefit of hindsight but in light of what seems to be the case happened to his motherhas all the reasons in the world. A few hours after the arrest of Paola Pettinà, the caregiver who in 2023 may have killed Mrs. Imelda Stevan Miglioranza di Sandrigo, 81 years old, mother of Stefania and Diego with an overdose of barbiturates, it is time to put one's thoughts in order and rewind the tape of those days.
“She seemed seriously sorry”
«We needed someone to stay with our mother for a couple of hours in the morning, however get her out of bed and help her get dressedwe looked for a name on Sandrigo's Facebook group, they suggested his, everyone spoke well of him, she seemed very confident». Imelda Stevan Miglioranza lived in an apartment in via Giovanni Carli in Sandrigo, a simple house in a working-class area. «Paola had only started going to the house three days ago when we started to notice that my mother was increasingly tired, always sleeping, struggling to get up – explains Stefania -. We took her to the hospital several times and the doctors could never figure out what was wrong, in fifteen days she died. We didn't suspect Paola at that moment, she was close to us, she seemed seriously sorry.” It was July 2023, the suspicions arrive in March of the following year. «Some acquaintances had asked us for the number Paola to look after two elderly parents, in March they called us saying that the GP had warned them and advised them to remove that woman because in his opinion she was overdoing her medications. At that point I went to the police to tell what had happened to us.” The investigations began from there.
The letter at the funeral
Diego Miglioranza recalls other details: «After my mother's death, Paola continued to write to me asking me how we children were doing and telling me that my mother “she missed him a lot”cloying behavior, he had only known her for a short time, I found that attitude a bit suspicious. Then he pushed for us to entrust the body to the funeral agency comrade's funeral, but we have decided to do our own thing. It must be said that nothing has ever been stolen from my mother's house – he says -. If it is true that he killed my mother voluntarily, I believe that the motive must be sought in his head, perhaps Paola had a sense of revenge towards him of the life that didn't give her what she wanted, the police will tell us.” Paola had also attended Imelda's funeral: «She had given my sister a very touching letter to read» Diego confides again. Imelda's sister commented on TV: «She was strong, present to itselfthe day before he died he was fine.”
The wedding witness
Paola Pettinà already had a conviction for fraud against the Vicenza woman Alessandra Piccohis former partner in the management of a perfumery in the center of Vicenza. «I had given her 24 thousand euros to take over as a partner in the Mille Novità perfumery shop, in Viale Trieste in Vicenzathat money disappeared – she explains – I reported her and her ex-partner, he was acquitted, she was sentenced to six months but the 24 thousand euros I had for her given he never returned them – he explains -. And to think that it all started because we were friends, even our classmates knew each other, she had been my best man when I got marriedI certainly couldn't imagine that she would be accused of such a terrible crime.”
