Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is about to land in theaters, but Paramount Pictures would already be there working on Sonic the Hedgehog 4con the release of the film which would be scheduled for spring 2027. The news comes ahead of the debut of the third film this Friday, with estimated grosses between 55 and 60 million dollars in the first weekend in the USA, where it will be shown in 3,800 cinemas.
The success of the Sonic film series seems to be unstoppable, so much so that Paramount has expressed interest in working on new adventures set in his world. Internationally, Sonic 3 will release in 52 markets this holiday season. For now we don’t know how the public will react to the film, but the critics really appreciated it, considering the many positive reviews posted online.
Combined, the first two Sonics grossed $725.2 million and more than $180 million globally across digital rentals and purchases. They also inspired a spin-off series launched on Paramount+, “Knuckles,” which came out earlier this year. As you surely know, Sonic is there SEGA mascotborn in the early 90s in the midst of the console war between Mega Drive and Super Nintendo.
The third film is directed by Jeff Fowler, who also directed the first two. The exceptional also returns Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo RobotnikSonic’s main antagonist, and Ben Schwartz as the super-fast protagonist. Carrey plays a double role in the third installment, also playing Gerald Robotnik, Ivo’s grandfather. The cast includes James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Keanu Reeves, who plays Shadow the Hedgehog, another character much loved by video game fans.
