The single group stage of the ’24-’25 Conference League has reached its epilogue. While the Champions League and Europa League will also be protagonists in the month of January (two extra rounds are played in the two main competitions), in the third most important continental event the last places up for grabs for the direct elimination phase will be contested.
Here too, the top 8 in the top rankings qualify directly for the round of 16, while those who finish from ninth to twenty-fourth place will have to pass the play-offs to get into the top 16. From twenty-fifth position downwards, however, they will be eliminated. The only team that after 5 days is certain of passing through to the round of 16 is the Chelsea: Enzo Maresca’s Blues, despite having fielded almost exclusively reserves and youth players, encountered no obstacles and are the only ones with full points (15 points and with the best attack of the tournament, 21 goals). Victory is also on the way in the fascinating match against the Irish Shamrock Roversamong the surprises of this championship phase. The Dublin club, in fact, has collected 11 points (one less than Fiorentina, so to speak) and is in the running for a place in the top eight. It’s very difficult to take points away from Stamford Bridge but we believe that the green and whites will be able to score at least one goal.

The teams that are already certain to take part in the direct elimination phase (round of 16 or play-offs) are 15: APOEL Nicosia, Cercle Brugge, Copenhagen, Djurgården, Fiorentina, Gent, Heidenheim, Jagiellonia, Legia Warsaw, Lugano, Olimpia Ljubljana, Pafos, Shamrock Rovers, Rapid Vienna and Vitória Guimaraes.
Only two, however, were mathematically eliminated: the Northern Irish of Larne and the Moldovans of Petrocub. Aims to remain in the top eightAPOEL: the Cypriots, the only ones to beat Fiorentina, have won the last three and should also be able to prevail in the home match against the KazakhsAstana. Three points also within reach for the Scots Hearts: the Edinburgh club with a success would secure the play-offs and the Petrocubalready eliminated, does not represent a credible threat. The Icelanders also dream of Vikinganother pleasant surprise: the Scandinavians have collected 7 points and seem to have what it takes to snatch at least a draw at the home of the disastrous SHOTwho were swept away (7-0) by Fiorentina in Florence a week ago. Balance is also expected in TSC-Noah, both stuck at 4 points and forced to win to hope to enter the top 24: Serbians are slightly favored due to the field factor.
Must win too Mould: in case of success the Norwegians would overtake the Czechs of Mlada Boleslav and in all probability they would enter the top 24. Not even the Betiswhich so far has substantially disappointed: the chances of finishing in the top eight are negligible for the Spaniards but againstHJK Helsinki the three points should not escape.
