Gisele Pelicot
Pelicot case, the sentences for everyone have finally arrived: the president of the Criminal Court of Vaucluse declared Dominique Pelicot guilty of all the crimes of which he was accused, from the aggravated rapes against his wife Gisèle which lasted 10 years to the attempted rape and rape aggravated against the wife of a co-defendant. Pelicot is also guilty of taking sexual images of his daughter Caroline and his former daughters-in-law.
The sentence of the criminal court of Vaucluse – respecting the times hypothesized by President Roger Arata – sentenced the main defendant in the Pelicot trial to twenty years’ imprisonment, at the request of the prosecution, the maximum possible sentence. Pelicot was found guilty of raping and sedating his wife and having her subjected to rape by dozens of other men over a ten-year period.
None of his co-defendants were acquitted at the ongoing trial in Vaucluse. The first sentences imposed on the 50 co-defendants are, for the moment, significantly lower than those requested by the prosecutionwhich had set a minimum sentence of ten years for rape. Jean-Pierre M. was sentenced to twelve years in prison. The prosecutor had requested seventeen years of imprisonment. The 63-year-old man was described as the “disciple” of Dominique Pelicot. He was the only defendant not to appear for acts committed against Gisèle Pelicot, but against his own wife, whom he drugged so that Dominique P. could rape her.
Three days ago Pelicot had asked for “forgiveness” from his family: “I would like to praise the courage of my ex-wife”, he said in his last statement in court before the verdict. “I regret what I did, making my family suffer” and “I ask them for forgiveness”, he said, asking his family to “accept my apologies”.
