Perez says goodbye. It’s about time

After four seasons, 90 races and 5 victories Checo Perez decided to leave Red Bull and Formula 1 where he ended up hanging out for 13 years.

It’s about time. The last season was truly disastrous and there was no point in achieving this torture…

Ultimately, Perez was a good skilled driver. He had excellent days and won on important tracks like Monaco, but then the comparison with Max crushed him.

Today it’s not easy to find riders who don’t let themselves be crushed by Max. He held out for a couple of years, but this year after the first races closed in his slipstream he disappeared.

Continuing would have meant obscuring the good he had done. It’s right to step aside and allow Red Bull to rejuvenate the team. I needed it…

“I am incredibly grateful for the last four years with Oracle Red Bull Racing and the opportunity to race with such an amazing team. Driving for Red Bull was an unforgettable experience and I will always cherish the successes we achieved together. We’ve broken records, achieved amazing goals, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people along the way. A big thank you to every person on the team, from management, engineers and mechanics, catering, hospitality, kitchen, marketing and communications, as well as everyone at Milton Keynes, I wish you all the best for the future. It has also been an honor to race alongside Max as a teammate all these years and share in our success. Special thanks to fans around the world, and especially Mexican fans for your unwavering support every day. We will meet again soon. And remember… Never give up.”
