An unexpected greeting
December 18, 2020 was the day Sergio Perez he was officially announced as the new Red Bull driver; four years later, on the same date, the Mexican was dropped by the Milton Keynes teamwhich confirmed through an official press release termination of the contract with Checowhich should have expired at the end of 2025. With this message, Perez’s career in the Circus ends – at least for now – and surprisingly the first public greeting message it came to the veteran from Guadalajara from a former teammate with whom relations had certainly not always been idyllic: Esteban Ocon.
Two years of sparks
The couple had in fact shared the garage at the time of common militancy in Force India/Racing Point in the two-year period 2017-2018 – the first two seasons as a starter ‘full-time’ of Ocon – and there was no shortage of controversies on and off the trackwith incidents that have become famous such as those of Spa and Baku 2017 and Singapore 2018, as well as numerous other episodes of lack of collaboration between the two. Perez and Ocon had then partially become closer over the years and had also shared the podium in the 2020 Sakhir GP, when the Frenchman came second at the finish line on the day of Checo’s first career victory.
“Thanks for everything Checo. I’ve learned a lot from you and it’s been great running alongside you all these years. I wish you all the best. I’m sure we’ll see each other again soon.”the nice comment published by the now former Alpine driver, who will remain on the grid in 2025 to defend the colors of the American team Haas.
