Red Bull fires Perez: Lawson will join Verstappen in 2025

The news has been in the air for several weeks but has now become official. Red Bull has decided to end its collaboration with Mexican driver Sergio early Perez.

After all the difficulties experienced in the season just ended, the Austrian team has decided to review its line up in view of the next championship. Checo was the one who paid the price Perez who, despite his sponsors, had his seat taken away. Alongside the reigning world champion Max Verstappen in 2025 it will instead be the young New Zealander Liam Lawson who, right at the end of the season, stood out for his excellent races at the wheel of Racing Bulls.

The team statement and Perez’s words

In the official note issued by the Austrian team we read: “After four incredible years together, Red Bull Racing and Sergio Perez have reached an agreement to part ways. During this period Checo played a vital role in securing multiple grand prix victories, countless podiums and two World Constructors’ Championships, contributing significantly to the team’s most successful era.”

Sergio Perez he then declared: “I am incredibly grateful for the last four years spent with Red Bull and for the opportunity I have been given to race for such an extraordinary team. It was an unforgettable experience. We broke records, achieved important goals and I had the privilege of meeting many important people along the way.”

“A big thank you also goes to every person on the team, from management, to engineers, mechanics, catering, marketing and communications, as well as everyone at Milton Keynes. I wish you all the best for the future.”

“It was an honor to also race with Max as a teammate and share in all our successes. I also thank the fans all over the world, and especially the Mexicans for all the uncontrollable daily support. We’ll see you soon.”
