The effigy of the Madonna di Capocolonna, from the first days of January it will be hosted by the church of the Immaculate Conception. This was announced by the apostolic administrator of the archdiocese of Crotone-Santa Severina, Monsignor Claudio Maniago, on the sidelines of the usual Christmas message. “As you know – he said – with the cathedral basilica closed for restoration work, the painting of the Madonna di Capocolonna is kept in the archbishop’s palace. But since we know how much this figure is adored and dear to the citizens, we decided to host her in the Church of the Immaculate Conception until the cathedral is reopened.”
The restoration of the statue of the Immaculate Conception
“Obviously in that church there is already an image of the Madonna, the Immaculate Conception, a precious, ancient and artistically relevant artefact. But by a happy combination, a beautiful providence, there was the possibility of restore this artifact, then the image was taken down and handed over to the Superintendence who will take care of its restoration”.
From the first days of January, therefore, the effigy of the city’s co-patron saint will again be visible in the nearby church which already houses the bust of San Dionigithe other co-patron saint of Crotone. “A special structure has been created and the security system has been strengthened. I think it’s a beautiful sign with which we will begin the Holy Year.”
