Fortnite offline on the morning of December 18th, but here’s when you can expect to play again after the new update.
Fortnite servers may go offline from time to time in preparation for the launch of major new updates, with matchmaking usually disabled half an hour beforehand. The new downtime is intended to update the servers to the new version, which will introduce the latest update for both the real and creative battle modes.
What exactly is in this update? We haven’t already received any major teasers regarding what to expect from the new patch with the v33.11 update, so we’ll have to wait for the release of the update to find out more.
The update is rolling out to all platforms, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Android. We’ll explain how long the downtime will last, and when you can expect to get back online and start playing with the new update.
Why are the servers offline? —
Fortnite downtime officially began at 1pm Italian time. “Matchmaking was disabled shortly before,” as is tradition, in order to give everyone, developers first and foremost, a way to prepare for maintenance. As with all regular Fortnite updates, the servers go offline so the team can install new updates and make sure everything works on the servers: new content cannot be installed while there are so many players online, so the team shuts it down for a few hours to complete the work.
When will the Fortnite servers come back online? —
When all goes well, Fortnite servers only go offline for three or four hours. This may vary based on how much new content is included in the update, a topic on which we cannot yet say too much given that no official information has arrived directly from Epic Games. For the servers’ return to activity time, the first estimate is by 2:00 pm but everything could take place much more quickly, as it is a mid-season update.
