Blackmagic Design, which you may know for its DaVinci video editing tool, has just announced its URSA Cine Immersive camera. Designed for the creation of 3D content intended for the Apple Vision Pro, this camera will arrive on the market in early 2025.
Announced in June and initially planned for 2024, the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive 3D camera will finally arrive at the beginning of next year, in the first quarter of 2025. This is what Blackmagic indicated on X, where the brand also gave the kickoff of pre-orders for its new immersive camera dedicated to the Apple Vision Pro.
This opening of pre-orders allows us to discover the price of this little technical gem, intended for 8K recording. Unsurprisingly, it is high: 30,000 dollars, which would almost put into perspective the 3,999 euros necessary (at a minimum) to afford the services of a Vision Pro.
An extraordinary camera
Technologically, this URSA Cine Immersive camera is obviously very advanced. There we find in particular a device centered around two stereoscopic 3D lenses, mounted on two 8K sensors to film at 180 degrees, but also at 90 frames per second.
This camera also supports Spatial Audio recording, for particularly immersive sound reproduction, and allows the recording of very high definition content: 8160 x 7200 pixels per eye. The recorded image also benefits from a dynamic range of 16 stops to maximize the precision of the captured scenes and the colors of each image.
More incidentally, this new Blackmagic camera has two 5-inch HDR touch screens and a third LCD screen dedicated to displaying status. As for onboard connections, you will have your choice of weapons: with a 12G-SDI output, 10G Ethernet connectivity, but also USB-C and XLR ports. An 8-pin Lemo socket is also present, this time for power.
On the storage side, the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive includes an 8 TB Blackmagic Media module allowing you to record approximately 2 hours of content in 8K stereoscopic, with the Blackmagic RAW format. We finally learn that the camera is eligible for the Cloud Store, for media synchronization.
Blackmagic is not the only manufacturer looking into 3D capture. Recently, Canon unveiled a new 3D lens for its APS-C cameras for viewing video footage on the Apple Vision Pro.
