Polling stations are open from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. local time.
Due to the strike at Canada Post, Elections Canada did not send information cards to voters. They had to go online to find out the details of the polling stations.
Some analysts fear that the absence of voter cards will have an effect on the participation rate.
Voters who have requested to vote by special ballot (New window) must ensure that their ballot reaches Elections Canada no later than election day, Monday, December 16, 2024. It is also possible to drop it off in person at the local Elections Canada office (New window) until the polling stations close.
Voters in the riding of Cloverdale–Langley City (British Columbia) (New window) who are not registered can still vote and register at their polling station on election day.
To obtain faster service at the polling station, they can also enter their information online (New window)print a pre-filled registration certificate and bring it with them when they go to vote.
The federal riding of Cloverdale-Langley City, without an MP for more than six months, includes part of Surrey, the city of Langley and a portion of the township of Langley, in the suburbs of Vancouver. Since its creation in 2015, the riding has alternated between the Liberals and the Conservatives.
On May 31, Liberal MP John Aldag resigned to try to make the jump to provincial politics by wearing the colors of the New Democratic Party (NPD) in the riding of Langley-Abbotsford. However, he was defeated by the conservative candidate, Harman Bhangu.
Three candidates
On the conservative side, candidate Tamara Jansen already represented the riding from 2019 to 2021. Madison Fleischer is the liberal candidate. The New Democratic candidate is Vanessa Sharma.
Candidates are also running for the Green Party, the People’s Party of Canada and the Libertarian Party.
