The father accused of stabbing his wife to death and killing his 2 and 5 year old boys in September 2022 was found guilty by the jury after two days of deliberation, Monday morning.
“The verdict is consistent with the evidence that was presented. It is a relief for the loved ones who feel that justice has been done,” reacted the Crown prosecutor, Ms.e Laurence Lamoureux. The jurors agreed with the Crown’s theory that Mohamad Al Ballouz, who now identifies as a woman, killed his partner and then attacked their two children, before drinking lava -ice and light a fire. “It is a crime that can be described as femicide. She was his partner, the mother of his two children and just like M’s familyme Bussières, we encourage victims or witnesses of domestic violence to denounce the situation, to ask for help and to talk about it,” added Me Lamoureux.
Mohamad Al Ballouz, who now says he identifies as a woman and presents himself physically as such, now goes by the name Levana Ballouz. She represented herself, without a lawyer, during her trial. She automatically gets life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years.
The trial revealed that it was because of a fire alarm that firefighters showed up at the couple’s condo, on the night of September 24 to 25, 2022, on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Brossard.
While they expected to put out a blaze, firefighters instead found Synthia Bussières lying in the bathroom, lying in a pool of blood. In a bedroom, the accused was lying on the bed with his two children, who had already died.
Sentencing submissions are scheduled for Wednesday. Relatives as well as first responders should then go to court.
