Michel Levasseur will receive the Tribute Prize at the 28th Opus Prize Gala

The Conseil québécois de la musique (CQM) unveils the winner of the Tribute Prize which will be awarded during the Opus Prize Gala on February 2. Michel Levasseur will be honored for his 40 years as general and artistic director of the Victoriaville International Festival (FIMAV).

Indeed, founder of the organization Productions Plateforme Inc. which has overseen FIMAV since 1983, Mr. Levasseur has worked with constancy and determination to highlight experimental and improvisational music from Quebec and Canada. During all these years, he has been able to develop FIMAV’s unique offering, through the programming of indoor concerts, experimental films, sound installations in public spaces and exhibitions.

Thanks to him, FIMAV today promotes the -Francs region on the national and international scene as a cultural tourist attraction, as well as new and current music. The Conseil québécois de la musique and the entire creative music community recognize the immense work that this visionary manager has accomplished.

“A passionate about avant-garde arts, a man of heart who cannot be stopped by anything; this is what Michel Levasseur is. He will have been able to give all the value it deserves to experimental music, and make it accessible both to the curious public and to seasoned music lovers in Quebec. The Quebec musical community is grateful to have had this essential builder for the advancement of the practice,” mentioned Françoise Henri, president of the CQM.

The Hommage Prize is awarded annually by the CQM board of directors and aims to recognize the exceptional contribution of an individual to the Quebec musical community. It is during the gala on February 2 that the tribute to Michel Levasseur will be paid.

The Opus Awards bear witness to the dynamism of the Quebec musical community, and highlight the excellence and diversity of concert music in Quebec. The Conseil québécois de la musique is a non-profit organization that speaks for the professional musical community and contributes to the influence of living music rooted in tradition, research and creation.
