Two people died in serious road accident this Sunday, December 15 in Labastide-sur-Bésorgues in the south of Ardèche. At the end of the day, a driver lost control of his vehicle on the RD 354, a fairly steep road. The car did a fall of 70 meters before ending its course in a hollow almost four meters deep in the Besorgues river. On board, a family from Bollène in Vaucluse: a couple and their 15-year-old son. He was able to get out of the vehicle, swim out of the river and alert the nearest house while his parents were still stuck.
A major rescue system was deployed: around forty firefighters, divers, a team with drones as well as the civil security helicopter. Parents aged 46 and 47 were pulled from the water, in absolute emergencyby fire divers after having spent at least an hour underwater. They could not be resuscitated. Their son was transported to Aubenas hospital with minor injuries. The family dog was treated at a veterinary clinic. An investigation is opened to determine the exact causes of the accident, it is entrusted to the gendarmes of the Largentière brigade.
