A medal and a prize for Mary-Sophie Harvey in Budapest

Mary-Sophie Harvey concluded her short course swimming worlds with a silver medal in the 200m freestyle on Sunday in Budapest.

With a time of 1 min 51 s 49/100, the Trifluvienne also sets a record in the Americas.

This 2nd place means that Harvey leaves Budapest with a harvest of five medals, including two individual and three in the relay. These are the first individual podiums of his career at the World Championships.

I was confident going into this race because in the relay I surprised myself by being fast in the 50m and 100m freestyle. I knew that with my bronze medal in the 400m freestyle I could get back into the race and I just had to have confidence. It was a little scary and honestly, the last 25 meters I was in so much pain. I kept telling myself to reach the wall. I’m really happysaid Harvey, after his race.

Subsequently, the 25-year-old athlete achieved excellent results at short course World Cups.

It’s been a crazy year. I wanted to end on a good note. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier. I finished 4th in the Olympics in this event. I knew that my goal for this year was to make podiums, in short and long courses, particularly in the 200m freestyle. I can say work accomplished, first step taken. Now I’m excited for what’s next, she confided.

Growing up, I was the talented swimmer. I worked hard. As a swimmer or athlete, there comes a time when you hit a plateau. You keep pushing yourself the same way every day and people tell you to wait, that your time will come. At some point, you just get sickened to hear it. But honestly, it’s proof that if you wait and you’re patient, your time will come.
