Several dozen charred vehicles and as many tattered photovoltaic panels. This is the observation, this Sunday, December 15, 2024, the day after the fire that occurred at the Boulou autoport. Yesterday evening, at around 6:50 p.m., the international transport company Ambrogio alerted the Pyrénées-Orientales departmental fire and rescue service: a fire was in progress on the site of the CAT logistics group.

The flames quickly spread to several cars and vans in the park which accommodates nearly 7,000. Dispatched to the scene, 65 firefighters were mobilized on site. In total, 25 light vehicles were completely consumed, 15 additional cars were also damaged. Added to this, 450 m2 photovoltaic panels under which all the damaged vehicles were parked. At 7:45 p.m., the spread of the fire was stopped. At 8 p.m., the fire was completely extinguished and no injuries were reported. Firefighters remained on the scene until 11 p.m. to prevent any possible resumption of the fire.
This Sunday, “after cutting off the electricity to the damaged shade houses and restoring power everywhere else” as indicated by the site manager Mr. Charlent, activity was able to resume at the CAT Group. The amount of damage suffered has not yet been estimated. The vehicles impacted by the flames were intended for the second-hand market.
