This Sunday, December 15, in the early morning, a fire ravaged a residential house in the center of Béning-lès-Saint-Avold, near Freyming-Merlebach. A family, parents and six children, must be rehoused.
“They warned me, they told me to get out,” says a retiree, wearing a thick woolen hat, who lives in the adjoining house. This Sunday, December 15, around 8 a.m., for reasons which have not yet been determined, a fire broke out in a residential house, rue Basse, in the center of Béning-lès-Saint-Avold, next to Freyming-Merlebach . “In the room downstairs, when I arrived there were already flames everywhere,” continues a witness.
More than 20 firefighters mobilized
Significant relief resources are deployed. The Freyming-Merlebach firefighters receive reinforcement from their colleagues from Hombourg-Haut and Saint-Avold. Seven vehicles, including the large ladder and two ton pump vans, are deployed in the center of the town. Around twenty firefighters were mobilized to contain the fire. It must not spread to terraced houses, particularly to an old farmhouse. “The difficulty is to limit the spread at the roof level,” observes a firefighter. Old pallets are removed. Nearby neighbors wait on the sidewalk, worried. “There was already a chimney fire last year in the house next door,” whispers a retiree.
Rehoused family
None of the occupants were injured. The family, parents and six children, took refuge in the old fire station, just opposite their home. The mayor of Béning-lès-Saint-Avold, Simone Ramsaier, arrives, phone to her ear. She is looking for a solution to rehouse the family. “She hasn't lived in the town for a long time, we're going to see if we can open the home to her, initially, and help her find a solution for rehousing. »
At 9:40 a.m., significant white smoke was still coming from the roof and firefighters were still on the job.
