“She is the only one in my heart… She is the one who does everything to get me there…”. It is with these words that Mohamed Abdou Chafi justifies the violence committed on his ex-spousehas Compiègne. Thursday December 12, he appeared for having committed violence for several years on his former partner. He will be sentenced to twelve months in prison following his immediate appearance.

In a relationship for five years, the woman clarified in police custody that her partner was violent when “he was angry or under the influence of alcohol and cannabis”. She was pregnant at the time and had to abort.

The defendant is accused of having isolated the young woman from her loved ones, of having insulted her, strangled her and hit her in the face to the point that the victim lost a tooth. The complainant even attempted suicide, indicates the civil party’s lawyer.

Mother convinces daughter to call the police

The young woman, who did not have the strength to go to the trial, had difficulty considering herself a victim. It was her mother who, going to the couple’s apartment, noticed that her daughter “had a funny face”. The mother then convinced her daughter to call law enforcement. A difficult arrest followed.

Mohamed Abdou Chafi explains that “all couples have problems” and does not consider himself violent. He describes his ex-partner as a person “who only came when she needed me”. During the trial, the defendant appeared to lose his words in front of the judge. He later admitted: “Of course there was violence in those years… and I apologize.”

“You have no idea how much I loved her.”

The judge asks the man if it is difficult for him to manage his anger. “You know nothing, ladies of the court, you cannot know how much I loved her,” expresses the defendant. In detention, I missed her so much that I hurt myself.”

Mohamed Abdou Chafi has 9 entries in his criminal record. The last one, for violent theft, led him directly to detention for a few months. The man of Egyptian nationality arrived in in 2010 with the aim of working to send money to his mother back home. “I’m tired of my life in Europe, I have to leave here,” said the man in an irregular situation. He would like to “turn a new page” and “work to build a better life”.

Mohammed Abdou Chafi receives a one-year sentence, with a three-year ban on contact with the victim.
