Hemodynamics in Rimouski: “the project will never see the light of day”

Even if we say the opposite from the Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) of Bas-St-Laurent, one of the members of the committee for the establishment of a hemodynamics room at the Rimouski Regional Hospital believes that the project will never see the light of day.

Having himself had to go to Quebec four times to receive such treatment and working on this file for around 25 years, Gérald Henry has difficulty accepting the recent decision of the CISSS to terminate the contract of the project manager working on the implementation. service area.

“There is just the performance hall which took longer to come to fruition in Rimouski”, image Mr. Henry. “We have been told for years that we are going to do if and that we are going to do that. During the last election campaign, the CAQ and the PQ promised us help, but we never had contact subsequently with the deputy minister Maïté Blanchette Vézina. We asked to go meet her and we didn’t hear back.”

The communications advisor at the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent, Gilles Turmel, insists that the project manager held a temporary and non-regular contractual position which the organization ended earlier than expected, considering that its development projects were put on ice for the moment.

“This is an administrative measure with no impact on direct care for users,” he says.

Door immediately closed

Despite several refusals in recent years, the region’s leaders were still working on preparing a file to convince the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, of the need for such a service in the region.

In May 2023, Mr. Dubé opened the door to the establishment of a hemodynamics service in Rimouski in order to ensure adequate coverage of Eastern Quebec, but without any real follow-up.

Hemodynamics is a technique used by cardiologists to dilate the arteries of the heart, particularly used to intervene in the event of a heart attack. This is a real department.

A specialized examination room and a room where pacemakers are installed make it possible to provide high-quality care in order to improve the quality of life of cardiac clients.

Home project break

In November, due to its obligation to return to a balanced budget by March 31, 2025, the CISSS du Bas-Saint-Laurent also put its home hemodialysis project on hold.

“The ministry asked us to review the project that we submitted in September 2022 for the purchase of around ten devices allowing hemodialysis at home. These are devices similar to those found in hospitals. We have started revising the project and we will continue to do so to be ready when we can submit it again. No investment projects will be authorized for the moment until we have achieved a balanced budget. The project will be done, but we cannot say when,” says Mr. Turmel.
