The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) announced on its social networks that the operation began around 8:30 p.m.
The entire blue and yellow lines were affected by this intervention. The stations between Snowdon and Beaubien on the orange line were disrupted and the stations between Angrignon and Viau suffered the same fate.
The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) reported for its part that a conflict between two young groups of individuals degenerated at the Place-des-Arts metro station, in the Ville-Marie borough.
Individuals were reportedly inconvenienced by what looked like cayenne pepper around 8:20 p.m. The suspects then fled via metro cars, it is reported.
Police officers, firefighters and paramedics were deployed to the scene, reports SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc.
The SPVM has not noted any serious injuries. No transport to a hospital was necessary.
The place was then evacuated and ventilated, like the Berri-UQAM and Peel stations as a preventive measure.
No arrests have been made at this time, concludes the SPVM.
