A fire broke out this Friday, December 13 morning shortly before 10 a.m. in a building located in the 16th arrondissement of the capital, the district town hall confirmed to BFM Paris Île-de-France.
The fire started on the 6th and last floor of a building located at 26 avenue d’Iéna, opposite the Guimet museum, before spreading to the roof, add the Paris firefighters. By noon, the fire was officially contained, but not extinguished.
On social networks, several photos and videos show thick black smoke emanating from the top floor of the building, under the zinc roofs. Large flames were escaping from the windows.
An Internet user adds that the smell of burning spreads “beyond Avenue Kléber”.
The building was evacuated and no casualties were reported, firefighters said.
Around fifty firefighters mobilized
Significant resources were deployed to extinguish the fire. Three lances were mobilized, one of which with an aerial ladder. Around fifty firefighters were still working to extinguish the fire at midday.
“The priority now is to finalize the reconnaissance and finish extinguishing the fire at the roof level,” assure the firefighters at midday this Friday.
At the beginning of the afternoon, the town hall of the 16th arrondissement indicated on X that “the avenue remains closed to traffic at least until this evening”.
