The prices of fiber internet boxes are falling at the end of 2024. A monthly barometer indicates that the average price of an entry-level offer is 26.95 euros per month, compared to 32.62 euros ago. is one year old.
This drop is notably linked to the arrival of a very competitive offer from Bouygues Telecom, which encouraged other operators to adjust their prices.
A drop of 17% in one year
Ariase's monthly barometer on internet box prices shows a drop in prices in December 2024. The average price of an entry-level offer stands at 26.95 euros per month, a decrease by 17.4% compared to December 2023. This downward trend, observed since March 2024, brings prices back to a level comparable to that of 2022.
Despite the high cost of optical fiber, and particularly for the latest generation internet boxes, a drop in prices is observed on the market. Ariase explains this by operators' desire to attract new customers with more attractive offers.
Bouygues Telecom's “Pure Fiber” offer, offering 8 Gbit/s for only 23.99 euros per month, has notably encouraged its competitors to lower their prices. Free, for example, lowered the price of its Freebox Revolution to 19.99 euros per month for one year.
Free is no longer the most expensive fiber operator
The drop in prices for fiber offers has reshuffled the market cards. Free, once known for its high prices, is no longer the most expensive operator. Orange and SFR now offer fiber offers with a higher average price, even if they retain low-cost brands, Sosh and RED, with more attractive prices.
It is important to qualify the drop in prices observed in the optical fiber market. Indeed, this mainly concerns entry-level offers. Premium offers, which offer greater services and speeds, maintain high prices, reaching 59.99 euros per month, such as the Freebox Ultra, at 49.99 euros for the first year, then 59.99 euros per month.
Mobile plans with historic prices
As for mobile plans, prices remain attractive, particularly for 4G and 5G offers. This month of December, a no-commitment mobile plan costs on average 10 euros per month, and promotions are frequent.
Some plans with 300 GB in 5G are even offered at 9.99 euros at the moment.
