A barn fire broke out on Tuesday, December 10 shortly after 11:30 p.m., rue du Rempart in Sainte-Croix-en-Plaine. When the firefighters arrived, the building with a surface area of 200m², which notably contained professional equipment, was completely engulfed in flames. The fire spread to a nearby barn, where straw was stored, as well as to two residential houses.
“We had just gone to bed. It was a neighbor who warned my husband that there was a fire next to our house, explains the owner of the second barn. We had time to get our cars out and open the gate for emergency services. »
“We knew our barn wasn’t going to hold up,” she continues, the two being only a few centimeters apart. The right part, however, which was used for storage, was able to be saved.
500m2 burned
The two houses were able to be preserved, even if they were slightly damaged. In each, the firefighters intervened to put out a start of fire on a beam. The rehousing of the occupants will be taken into account by the municipality.
Slightly injured following a fall, a 32-year-old woman, resident of one of the houses, was transported to Pasteur hospital in Colmar.
Around fifty firefighters from the centers of Colmar, Sainte-Croix-en-Plaine, Rouffach, Ensisheim, Muntzenheim as well as a team with drone for reconnaissance were mobilized at the height of the fire, under the orders of the column leader , Commander Mickaël Mamprin, with the support of three group leaders.
In total, 500m² burned. The fire started and decreased in intensity around three in the morning. Five lances were deployed, including two on ladders, to subdue him.
The Jebsheim gendarmes, like Mayor Mario Ackermann, were also on the scene.
At the start of the morning, firefighters were still on site carrying out surveillance operations.
