Festival of Lights: fewer visitors to Tête d’Or, success to Terreaux

A stable influx of more than two million visitorsthis is the first positive point of assessment of the Festival of Lights 2024which took place from December 5 to 8 in .

The second is the choice of the anniversary work at Place des Terreaux : the City of Lyon had decided to recall the little gianta creation already seen in 2008. A profitable choice, since nearly 960,000 visitors were counted over the four evenings! That’s 40,000 more than last year.

Attendance down at Tête d’Or Park for the Festival of Lights

If the City does not make the comparison in its press release dated December 10, the Tête d’Or parkhe is experiencing a drop in attendance. 186,000 visitors flocked in 2023… Against 127,000 this year, despite the return of the much-loved A little while ago.

Same observation on the decline in parc Blandanwith 16,000 visitors this year, compared to 20,000 press releases in 2023.

Festival of Lights: objective not achieved for the Lumignons du coeur in 2024

Another disappointment, on the side of the place Sathonay. The association Alynea – Samu social 69 hoped to sell 50,000 let’s light from the heart, “in the hope of raising 100,000 euros” to finance the renovation of 50 homes for homeless people. Finally, the Lyon association leaves with half of its objective, i.e. 52,000 euros. A figure reduced by half compared to 2023 and fundraising for the Léon-Bérard foundation.

More tourists passing through the Lyon tourist office

Without giving precise figures, the organizers of the Festival of Lights note that the city’s emblematic sites nevertheless brought together the most visitors, based on the flows observed in the metro stations by Sytral Mobilities. “Bellecour, Hôtel de Ville and Vieux Lyon have, like every year, concentrated most of the flows.”

Among the positive points highlighted, the hotel occupancy rate “by 76.8%, up compared to 2023” as well as attendance at the tourist office pavilion (+25% compared to 2023).

“Sales of Lyon City Cards jumped 73% [par rapport à la Fête des lumières 2023, NDLR] for 4-day packages, reflecting an extension of the length of stay of visitors”it is observed.

An assessment which seems mixed, but which does not comment Gregory Doucet. “A quarter of a century later, you are still there, greets the mayor of Lyon. HAS these 25 years of luminous adventures and the many others that await us. Endless thanks to the teams of the City of Lyon, to our private and public partners without whom, this free and popular festival would not be possible.”
