. The American president-elect finally arrived at the Elysée Palace, just 45 minutes late. He was welcomed on the red carpet by President Emmanuel Macron. The two men know each other well, since the French leader was already in office during Trump's first term. The handshake was long and strong, the smiles radiant and the shoulders tenderly kneaded. This is the first foreign visit of the president-elect, who will officially take office on January 20 in Washington. Once inside and before their bilateral meeting, the two men spoke briefly. Emmanuel Macron recalled that Trump was president during the Notre-Dame fire. “I remember his solidarity”he recalled. At the time, Donald Trump suggested sending air tankers to water the cathedral, a proposal politely declined by Civil Security. In a dark suit and yellow tie, Donald Trump, for his part, greeted the “terrific French people” and underlined its “excellent relations” with Emmanuel Macron. Before going to Notre-Dame, where he will be seated, at his request, between the French president and his wife Brigitte, Donald Trump could well meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Elysée, who is expected there at 5 p.m. principle. “The world is a little crazy at the moment, we’re going to talk about it”said Donald Trump. A meeting between the American president-elect and the Ukrainian president would represent a nice diplomatic coup for Macron, in difficulty domestically.
