It was shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon when the emergency services were called for a vehicle fire on level -3 of the parking lot of the Auchan Kirchberg shopping center.

“The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes. Our teams are still on site to carry out ventilation in order to evacuate the fumes. The parking lot remains closed for the time being. We are going to see if it is possible to evacuate the parked cars, if they have not been contaminated by the fumes”, specifies Cédric Gantzer, in charge of communication for the Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps, to The essential. He was unable to specify the number of vehicles affected by the flames but assures “that the fire did not spread to the rest of the parking lot”. No injuries are to be deplored, said the CGDIS on Twitter.

When the fire broke out, a perimeter was set up to contain it quickly and prevent it from spreading. “The fire had no impact on the shopping center, which remained open because it was completely independent. Only the car park has been temporarily closed. The siren sounded until all danger was averted by the firefighters, ”explains Sébastien Mercier, the director of the shopping center.

According to him, around 6:15 p.m., all the conditions were met “for the activity to resume normally”. People who were parked at -1 and -2 were able to leave the parking lot before the emergency device was lifted. Only the accesses were closed “to prevent visitors from going to -3”, adds Sébastien Mercier.

According to the Automobile club du Luxembourg (ACL), rue Alphonse-Weicker had to be closed to traffic during the intervention.
