Bear had a long career of 7 years in the Sussex police (England), and he is now enjoying his retirement with his former partner, agent Julia Pope, who decided to adopt him permanently in 2020.

Despite a major surgical operation in the summer of 2023 to treat herniated discs, the doggie is now enjoying life at a more leisurely pace, and still enjoys going for walks with his mistress. But on November 28, 2024, the walk suddenly took an unexpected turn.

Un instinct intact

On November 28, the handsome German Shepherd celebrated his 12th birthday, and he was enjoying a long walk with his owner, when he suddenly showed very unusual behavior.

Completely changing its attitude, the animal suddenly resumed its old working habits, and quickly communicated a path to its mistress, who fortunately knew Bear and his way of working very well. Trusting him, she quickly understood that her dog had probably spotted an abnormal situation thanks to his visibly intact instincts as a working dog.

Below, in an area covered by vegetation, Julia Pope finally spotted a man in obvious distress. After a fall, the man was stuck there, in the cold and damp, and unable to get up on his own.

When the poor unfortunate man was discovered, night was beginning to fall, and it is probable that without Bear's intervention, the man would not have escaped alive.

Wanted for several days by the police, the investigation was however at a standstill. Thanks to Bear and his incredible sense of duty, she is now resolved!

Until the end, Bear will remain a hero, and he proves to us that dogs are man's best friend.
