An unnecessary and risky announcement. This is essentially the reaction of many observers after Donald Trump’s threat to introduce 100% customs duties against the Brics member countries (a group initially made up of Brazil, Russia, India, of China and South Africa, expanded to four other countries in 2024), if they were to create a common currency aimed at competing with the hegemony of the dollar in international trade.
