NEED FOR 5000 PARTNERS FOR THE CHRETIENS TV CHANNEL
PARIS (Reuters) – The National Assembly decides on Wednesday on the motions of censure tabled by the New Popular Front (NFP) and the National Rally (RN) in response to the use of 49.3 by Michel Barnier on Monday to adopt without a vote the draft social security budget (PLFSS).
Although the Prime Minister on Tuesday considered it “possible” that his government would not be censored, barring any last-minute surprises, his executive will be the first to fall in more than 60 years, at a time when the country is trying to control its heavy budget deficit.
The oppositions, NFP and RN in the lead, reaffirmed on Wednesday their intention to overthrow the government.
If the first motion of censure was not adopted, the deputies would be asked to vote on the one tabled by the RN.
In the current configuration of the National Assembly, a motion of censure must receive 288 votes to bring down the executive (two seats are vacant out of the 577).
THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
6:11 p.m. – Laurent Marcangeli, president of the Horizons and Independents group, warns of the consequences that the absence of a 2025 budget could have.
“The absence of a budget automatically implies an increase in income tax, the scale of which will not be indexed to inflation for 18 million people,” he said.
6:08 p.m. – “The best way not to be under threat and therefore under the supervision of the extremes (…) is to finally accept dialogue and compromise, because censorship will produce nothing,” defends Marc Fesneau.
6:03 p.m. – Marc Fesneau, president of the Democrats group and former Minister of Agriculture, in turn denounces the RN’s convenient alliance with the left. “The left is choosing irresponsibility and the unknown,” he judges, while the RN is preparing, according to him, to “betray [ses] voters.”
5:46 p.m. – Cyrielle Chatelain, president of the Ecologist and Social group, reaffirms her desire to censor the government: “Our hand will not shake when voting for censorship. We will choose to believe that the best is still possible.”
“The ecological and social group defends the primacy of collective decision-making, public debate and parliamentary work that the members of the government coalition fled for months,” she adds.
Cyrielle Chatelain calls for “an end to the vertical approach to power which is now being defeated”, and adds that the “next government must commit to not using 49.3”.
“It is the guarantee of parliamentary debate and it is the only guarantee that a government is not censored. »
5:37 p.m. – “There are only two possible choices, the interest of the country or the interest of the parties, the choice of responsibility or the choice of chaos, the choice of the solution or the choice of disorder,” says Laurent Wauquiez to the attention of deputies.
“You will make this choice especially in front of the French. There is one thing we cannot accept here. We cannot accept that you explain that the motion of censure is not serious, that it will have no consequences. »
5:34 p.m. – Laurent Wauquiez defends the Prime Minister’s record: “We made a choice of responsibility by supporting you.”
5:32 p.m. – Laurent Wauquiez, president of the Republican Right group, denounces “the junction” between the RN and LFI.
“You pretend to insult each other, and you prepare to vote with the others, to vote together to bring down a government. Is this a surprise? I don’t believe it. »
5:23 p.m. – “We cannot resolve to the betrayal of the Republican Front which alone justifies this motion of censure,” denounces Boris Vallaud.
“The power is no longer at the Élysée, the power is no longer at Matignon, the power is here, in the National Assembly. »
5:18 p.m. – Boris Vallaud, president of the Socialists and Allied Group, criticizes the Prime Minister for not having taken into account the proposals of the left and environmentalists.
“At no time, none, have you followed up on any of our proposals,” he regrets.
“This motion of censure is first of all your failure, the failure of the Barnier method which will have been nothing but a rumor going around,” he adds.
5:17 p.m. – The floor is given to the presidents of parliamentary groups.
5:12 p.m. – “The worst policy would be not to censor such a budget, such a government, such a collapse,” claims Marine Le Pen, adding that she will vote for the special law that will be proposed for the 2025 budget.
5:08 p.m. – “You only gave one answer, tax, tax, tax,” Marine Le Pen declares to the Prime Minister.
“Over these three short months, it appeared that you were in reality at the head of a government devoid of any democratic foundation, including at the heart of your so-called common base. »
5:04 p.m. – Marine Le Pen, president of the RN group in the Assembly, takes the floor to defend the motion tabled by her party: “Here we are at the moment of truth”.
“The budget that we are rejecting today not only reneges on your promises, it contains neither direction nor vision. It is a technocratic budget that continues to slide down the slope, careful not to touch the totem that is uncontrolled immigration. »
5:01 p.m. – “You finally tried to compromise, but with the extreme right, this National Rally that you favored in violation of the Republican barrier which was expressed by the majority last July,” denounces Éric Coquerel.
“Today we are tolling the death knell of a mandate, that of the president. »
4:56 p.m. – Éric Coquerel, LFI deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis and president of the Finance Committee, who spoke first to defend the motion tabled by the NFP, affirms that “the majority of the people are behind the motion of censure “.
“The motion that I am bringing will take away your government because you have never been able to thwart the curse that Emmanuel Macron transmitted to you: illegitimacy. »
“You are illegitimate because you refused to listen to the overwhelming majority who want the repeal of pensions,” adds Éric Coquerel.
4:52 p.m. – The deputies begin examining the motions of censure tabled by the NFP and the RN.
