The security today represents a priority issue for cities, particularly in La Ciotat, a city very popular with tourists.
« This is our very first priority. This is essential for peace of mind. We must better protect, better secure and better serve our fellow citizens », chanted Alexandre Doriol, mayor of La Ciotat, during the official inauguration of the new hotel in municipal policies. The construction site of this project lasted almost fifteen months for a total cost of 880,000 euros.
Located next to the town hall, in place of Crédit Agricole, the 329 m² building demonstrates the municipality's commitment to public safety and its desire to guarantee a safer environment for all citizens. Significant fact of the effectiveness of its action in this area, the delinquency has also decreased by 7% between 2022 and 2023.
Equipped with shared workspaces and meeting rooms, this equipment now allows the 60 agents to benefit from a better working environment, while improving the reception of the public. “ Our desire was to rethink both infrastructure and resources. It is a milestone for reinforced security and an ambitious project for a modern vision », Underlined the councilor, with at his side, Arlette Salvo, 1st deputy of the City.
A seven-metre video wall for the new municipal police hotel
The municipal police headquarters is equipped with a video wall seven meters long and two meters wide to manage security in real time. Which captures the facts from the 300 cameras installed throughout the city.
« The urban supervision center is the security headquarters for us, covering the entire municipality. », stipulated Alexandre Doriol.
«This device offers complete and continuous visibility of the public space, contributing to optimal security management. », Estimated Pierre-Edouard Colliex, Prefect of Police of Bouches-du-Rhône.
The urban supervision center also integrates dedicated video surveillance rooms, an advanced communication system and the latest computer tools.
Thanks to this center, the ten operators can follow live events taking place in public spaces and quickly coordinate the interventions of law enforcement and emergency services such as firefighters or SAMU.
The images captured by the surveillance cameras are sent live to the national police station, thus allowing better coordination actions at the local level.
« It is a tool adapted to improve the population's trust with the police who work on a daily basis. We must help municipalities to equip themselves with such equipment », underlined Martine Vassalpresident of the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Council.
A future police station in Saint-Jean?
Studies for the creation of a building dedicated to a future police hotel in the Saint-Jean district are currently underway.
The operational phase should begin at the end of 2024. The City therefore wanted the eastern districts of the city to benefit from this position which will accommodate a permanent workforce of eight people.
« Our desire is to have reinforced coverage, particularly during the summer period. We want to protect the quality of life and promote living well together », underlined Alexandre Doriol with, at his side, his two counterparts, Patrick Ghigonetto, mayor of Ceyreste, and Marc Del Grazia, mayor of Roquefort-la-Bédoule.
