After a first hearing last October, a second hearing will take place this Thursday in Tunisia to judge the three alleged murderers of Ubayan ski coach Romain Pizzato, found dead in September 2022.
A second hearing to try to explain the causes of the death of Ubayen Romain Pizzato, killed in September 2022 in his second home in Ajim on the island of Djerba, will take place this Thursday, December 5 in Tunisia, BFM has learned DICI.
His mother, Odile, and his lawyer, Maître Besma Maghrebi will be present at this crucial meeting. “I am waiting for light to be shed on the inconsistencies revealed during the previous hearing. And for the request for additional information that we are going to make to be accepted in order to confirm the motive which was purely financial”, explains the Marseille lawyer .
This Thursday, she will be alongside her client “exhausted by the situation”. “My client is not doing very well. She is exhausted and is afraid that they may be released. The case will not end tomorrow and she knows it. Fatigue is completely taking over, but she has confidence in Tunisian justice “, she explains.
The ex-partner backs down
Before the trial opened, on October 1, Romain Pizzato’s mother was officially recognized as a civil party. She had attended the first hearing against the three alleged murderers of her son at the Medenine court.
That day, Romain’s former partner recanted her confession. She no longer admits to having strangled the victim. She maintained that she did not see Ubayen’s body floating in the pool the morning after their argument.
A statement that seems unfounded, given the configuration of the house. The defendants’ requests for release were immediately rejected.
Death penalty
In September 2022, the lifeless body of Romain Pizzato, a ski coach living in Saint-Pons (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), was found in his Tunisian villa. The autopsy carried out on the victim’s body concluded that he had died of strangulation. Traces of blows and scratches were also noted and the body of Romain Pizzato was found floating in his swimming pool.
Quickly, Ubayen’s ex-partner and two alleged accomplices were arrested and placed in pre-trial detention. “They are suspected of premeditated homicide. A sentence punishable by the death penalty,” Riadh Yangui, Medenine prosecutor, told BFM DICI at the time.
