YOUTH MATCH RACING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2024 – Title holders, Ange Delerce and his crew returned to the final of the Worlds, but were unable to achieve the double, nevertheless bringing home a nice silver medal.
Match Racing is a discipline apart from sailing, since unlike most others, where the clashes take place in regattas, here, it is a succession of edge-to-edge duels to increase the spectacle. Last year, Angel Delerce and his team had achieved a feat by winning the U23 world title, beating the Australians at home in the final. And obviously, they were the big favorites for the double this year in Saudi Arabia.
In the group stage, the Bleuets were impeccable, finishing tied for first with 9 wins and 2 losses. Nothing was easy in the quarters and especially in the semis, since they were led two heats to one by the Swedish crew before reversing the situation to reach the final where awaited them Cole Tapper and his team, with the same record in the group stage. But this time no miracle. The Bleuets lost 3-0 without succeeding in making their rivals doubt, and are therefore content with money. But it remains a magnificent performance for a crew that is already French senior champion and university world champion, and who can think big for the years to come.
