The latest update of the Forerunner 965 seems to pose some problems with touch screen management. A concern recognized by Garmin which is working to resolve it.

At the start of December, Garmin began rolling out its latest update for its sports watches. A feature-rich update that allows you to benefit from bodybuilding training plans, lactate threshold measurement from the watch and new meditation activities.

However, it seems that the update is not going smoothly as reported by the site Gadgets & Wearables. The site indeed reports that the deployment poses some problems once the update has been deployed.

On the Garmin forums, a Garmin Forerunner 965 owner indicates that his watch necessarily switches to touch control since it was updated, despite the functionality being deactivated during training:

During activities (in my case walking or running), the touch screen is always activated and can be controlled by touch. […] However, all the parameters are passed to “ touch disabled » or « only on cartography “, but the screen remains sensitive to touch.

It must be said that many users of sports watches tend to favor the use of buttons during physical activity, due to concerns about sweating or rain. In cold weather, touchscreen activation may also be hampered by layers of clothing positioned over the watch.

A problem recognized by Garmin

In response to the message posted, Garmin acknowledges that this is indeed a problem: “ We are aware of the issue and are working on it. We are sorry for the inconvenience “, says one of Garmin's community managers.

Fortunately, it seems that only the Garmin Forerunner 965 is affected by the touchscreen issue. Other Garmin touchscreen watches, such as the Forerunner 955 or Forerunner 265, do not appear to be affected.

The update in question is version 21.19, currently being rolled out by Garmin. We will therefore certainly have to wait a few more weeks before a patch is deployed.
