The wait tends to be coming to an end for five of the six people still detained in the case of the arson that occurred in mid-October in Moisie, while the body of one person was found lifeless in the rubble.
Investigations into release should finally be held in the coming days. Two of the five defendants still detained will know on Wednesday what the outcome will be.
This is the case for the individual who faces the charge of kidnapping against Jimmy Maltais, found dead in the fire.
Furthermore, the police investigation into this arson continues.
“We are waiting for additional evidence and expert opinions,” said Mr. Marc Bérubé.
The addition of new charges is still in the air. Everything will depend on the evidence that will be collected and the gathering of intelligence, information and expertise.
“When we have the result of all this, we will know if there are other elements of criminal offenses of the same type, or more serious,” indicated Me Bérubé.
The other accused in this case are in court for “arson on a residential house”.
For the stage of the investigation into release, the lawyer for the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP), Me Marc Bérubé, will have nearly two hours to present the elements with the investigators.
For the two individuals from the Quebec region, represented by Me Cozak and Giroux, this step should take place on December 9. A request must be made for a duty judge.
The fifth person’s file is on the docket at the Sept-Îles courthouse for December 16. One person was able to regain his freedom on October 31, awaiting the continuation of the legal process.
For the moment, due to a publication ban requested by Me Cozak on November 11, it is prohibited to mention the names of the accused.
