“The film is about Ukraine. It was directed by Oksana Karpovych. It’s a unique and exceptional documentary that I learned about,” declares Odile Mergault, member of the collegial committee managing the Ciné-Monts cinema where will be screened Intercepted. She was touched by the content and the form, “because we never see images of war, but gutted buildings and the truck ride. We are immersed in a perception of the war in Ukraine, far from the one that plays on repeat on the news channels. »
Oksana suggests understanding this war from a different angle, “that of the telephone conversations of Russian soldiers and their families, conversations captured by the Ukrainian secret services”.
Indeed, the filmmaker juxtaposed these conversations and images surprisingly calm. The editing is remarkable.
At the start of the war, in 2022, “she traveled through many combat zones and saw the reality of war. She spent six weeks working with the Al Jazeera team. Fixed shots punctuated by truck travel, create an impression of travel. »
A gift operation
At the end of the screening, spectators will be able to talk with the producer, Pauline Tran Van Lieu, and volunteers from Vendée Ukraine. “We have been collecting and sending many parcels to Ukraine every six weeks since 2022,” explains Jean-Claude Lochon, volunteer who takes care of collection and deposit operations. He also takes care of large equipment and palletizing, of which he has become an expert. “We have occasional requests such as medicines, paraffin to make candles, fire extinguishers and diving suits. »
For example, collected marine canvas is used to make foldable stretchers. “The entire collection is sent to Chernomorsk, Odessa, Kharviv, kyiv and Ternopil, via transport that Vendée Ukraine finances. » Each box is identified for declaration, when passing through both customs. “It’s a huge job! »
For Christmas, Vendée Ukraine is launching a gift operation. People place gifts in a wrapped shoebox. They can drop them off now at Bricomarché in Challans and at the football club. Last year, we collected 700. Christmas is celebrated on January 7 in Ukraine, but also on December 25 to keep in touch. The truck will leave on December 20.
