The French automobile market collapses in November, but our city cars are there to turn things around

We just received the auto market numbers for November 2024, and it really isn’t pretty. New car registrations continue to fall, confirming a trend that was already worrying in October. Between falling sales and upcoming new rules, the sector is going through a period of turbulence.

Hybrids are progressing while SUVs still dominate registrations

Despite the overall fall, hybrids display a increase of 17%representing nearly 48% of registrations in November. THE “microhybrides”, in particular, record a strong increase (+71 %), supporting models like Renault Clio Hybrid and the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid. THE SUVWho exceed 50% market share, remain the most popular vehicles among the French. Models like the Renault Austral and the Peugeot 5008 continue to attract driversdespite a drop of 4% in this category.

The second-hand market remains a refuge, but it could be affected by the new measures in force from December 2, 2024. The sudden abolition of the conversion bonus, advanced by decree, puts end to crucial aid for the renewal of the vehicle fleet. With this disappearance and the upcoming restrictions on Crit’Air 3 vehicles in the Greater ZFE from January 2025transactions could focus more on newer, less polluting models. Used electric models like the Peugeot e-208 and the Renault Zoe nevertheless continue to gain popularitywith an increase of 19% in November.
