North Korean soldiers died in Russia according to Zelensky
In an interview with Japanese news agency Kyodo News, Volodymyr Zelensky said North Korean soldiers deployed in western Russia had been killed. He did not specify how many North Korean soldiers had been killed or injured in battles against the Ukrainian army, according to the Japanese media.
He said, however, that there was evidence that around 12,000 North Korean troops had been deployed to Russia's Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, but that kyiv needed “to have proof” before disclosing the exact number of victims.
The Ukrainian president added that he believed many North Korean troops would be sent to the front lines in the future, and that he was “indisputable” that Vladimir Putin intended to use them “like cannon fodder”.
Air alerts in Kyiv
An air alert has been declared in several regions of Ukraine, including the capital kyiv, due to the presence of Russian attack drones, according to the Ukrinform news agency, citing the air force.
“Citizens are urged to stay in shelters until the air raid is over and not to film or post online the work of our defenders,” according to the kyiv military administration.
Defense forces had shot down 32 drones the previous night, according to Ukrainian media.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock explains on Sunday that she does not want “to obscure” the differences between Berlin and Beijing during his visit to China on Monday. “Cooperation is better than confrontation – without being naive”, Annalena Baerbock said in a statement released as she flew to Beijing.
The head of German diplomacy wants to address the issue of the war in Ukraine in particular. “Instead of being, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, a guarantor of peace and security in the world, China is going against our European interests with its economic aid and military to Russia”, lamented the minister.
She says she wants to address this subject, “that we cannot simply gloss over”, during his visit, which notably included an exchange with his counterpart Wang Yi.
