That's it. Shopping has already started. One month before Christmasstore shelves are full, especially of toys. For some we spend (almost) without counting. For others, everything is calculated. And you, How much do you plan to spend? A study answers the question by Occitania.
Ankorstore, the first European sales platform between professionals which connects 30,000 brands and 300,000 independent traders, reveals the results of its study “End of year celebrations and the purchasing power of the French: what impact on traders? ». A survey, carried out among 300 retailers and 2004 French people. Which highlights “a certain stress on both sides regarding this period, which represents for traders, the biggest peak in their annual activity and for consumers spending period important”.
Purchasing power that does not change
Although inflation is forecast to be falling according to figures recently published by INSEE, 70% of residents in the Occitanie region say they do not see any improvement of their purchasing power (like 72% of French people). As a result, 51% of Occitan households feel the upcoming holiday period as a source of financial stress (for 50% of French people).
In this tense context, the average budget planned for the end of year celebrations by Occitans in 2024 is lower than the national average with €489 compared to €508 for the French. A “stable” budget, at best, since 81% of inhabitants of the Occitanie region do not plan to increase their spending this year (compared to 80% of French people). Note that in this study, the average budget includes gifts, meal, outfits, decoration, etc.
Less than in the Alps but more than in Brittany
The study reveals significant regional disparities, from Francilien (€601) to Occitan. Which finds itself far behind Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (€581) and Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur (€543). But also far ahead of Centre-Val-de-Loire (€426), Pays-de-la-Loire (€428) and Brittany (€422).
Which does not prevent traders from being confident. 70% of them believe that French spending for the end-of-year holidays will not exceed that of 2023 over the same period. Faced with this probable budgetary prudence, traders remain resilient and are 67% say they are optimistic for the end of year period 2024.
