The first game of the final of the Women’s Special Division of the 2024 Paulista Championship was a clash between two great teams. Tense and hard-fought, match 1 of this best-of-three series saw Unimed Campinas triumph over AD Santo André with a score of 74 to 68, on the evening of Friday, November 29, at the Ginásio do Tênis Clube Campinas.

With this result, Campinas is just one victory away from capturing the Paulista title next Monday, December 2, at the Ginásio Municipal Parque Celso Daniel in Santo André. If Santo André wins, the title decision will be made in Match 3, scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, also at Celso Daniel.

Given the quality of both teams, a more balanced first quarter was expected in the match in Campinas. However, what did happen was a remarkably dominant performance from the Unimed Campinas team. Santo André’s players seemed distracted and were ineffective on offense, with many missed shots. Meanwhile, they struggled to contain their opponents’ quick movements, leading to an impressive shooting percentage for the hosts. At the end of the quarter, the scoreline showed a shocking 27-9 in favor of Campinas.
