NEW YORK | When Mike Matheson was injured, it was Justin Barron who entered the fray. Maybe he won’t be the one to come out when the Quebecer returns.
Martin St-Louis is in fact not entirely satisfied with Jayden Struble’s performance even if he sees the talent of his player. It’s something else that makes him tick.
“He has to find the right balance, he has to raise his floor. When he is good, he is very good, but his threshold is too low at the moment.
According to St-Louis, the 23-year-old American must add that little je ne sais quoi to his game and be on from the first throw-in.
“I don’t know if it’s mental, everyone is different. For me, you have to be constantly in a hurry, be alert because every play counts. From your first presence, a little bit can affect the outcome of the match so I would like him to increase his level of urgency from the start of the match.
Dach: it’s coming
Kirby Dach continues to recover after missing almost the entire last season. It’s a real cross for him, but he may be about to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Certainly, he has not obtained a point in the last four games while finding himself with a differential of -5, but Martin St-Louis was optimistic after training on Friday.
“He’s starting to see things more clearly, it hasn’t translated into performance yet, but I think he’s on the path to getting there. It doesn’t happen overnight, but it’s coming.”
Alongside Josh Anderson and Joshua Roy he looks more comfortable and by midday on Friday he was more than solid in daily training. Perhaps it is indeed just a matter of time.
